SHISHI-IWA-HOUSE comprises an intimate collection of architect-designed retreats amid Karuizawa’s mature woodland. The first house, designed by Shigeru Ban, follows a sinuous plan around existing trees, placing guestrooms along a gently curving timber structure. Shared libraries, communal rooms and forest-facing terraces bring a residential dimension to this unusual architectural property.
