Editorial Standards

Last updated: 13 October 2026. Principles governing research, rankings and editorial accountability.

Mission and editorial remit

Luxe Adviser is an independent editorial and hospitality intelligence platform. Its purpose is to make luxury hotel recognition, history, leadership and defining characteristics more intelligible through structured research and transparent comparison.

Our coverage concentrates on luxury hotels across Asia, including destinations, brands, professional contributors and distinctions relevant to those properties. Inclusion is an editorial decision, not an endorsement, certification or recommendation to book a particular hotel.

Independence and conflicts of interest

Hotels, owners, brands, public relations representatives and award organisers cannot purchase inclusion, a higher ranking or favourable editorial treatment. Information supplied by interested parties is subject to the same verification standards as other submissions.

Commercial relationships, sponsorships or material benefits that could reasonably affect how readers interpret coverage should be clearly disclosed where relevant. Editorial judgements and corrections remain separate from commercial considerations. A hotel’s refusal to cooperate does not, by itself, justify adverse treatment.

Selection and coverage

The editorial universe is defined by the geographic and hotel eligibility criteria described in the applicable methodology. A hotel may be excluded because it falls outside the stated scope, lacks sufficient verifiable information, has ceased operating or cannot be reliably matched to a canonical record.

Coverage is not exhaustive. Absence from the directory or rankings should not be interpreted as a negative finding about a hotel’s quality. We seek consistency across properties rather than treating publicity or online visibility as evidence of merit.

Source hierarchy and verification

We distinguish primary evidence, such as an awarding body’s published results, official hotel information and dated professional announcements, from secondary reporting, aggregators and unverified claims. We prefer primary, attributable and contemporaneous sources when available.

Conflicting claims are assessed for provenance, publication date, context and relevance. Where reliable evidence is insufficient, a claim may be withheld, qualified or marked unresolved rather than presented as established fact. A single hotel press release is not independent verification of an external award.

Distinctions and publisher attribution

Awards, guides and reader or editorial lists are attributed to the organisations that issue them. Luxe Adviser does not award those third-party distinctions or claim endorsement by their publishers.

We distinguish publication year, award edition, recognition level and, where applicable, geographic or national editions. Historical naming changes and combined editions are reconciled cautiously. Publisher corrections can lead to amendments of the corresponding hotel record and downstream calculations.

Ranking methodology and score integrity

Scores and rankings follow the published Methodology, including the eligibility rules, source categories and weights applicable to a particular edition. The score is a comparative editorial model, not an objective guarantee of a guest experience.

A change to a source record, hotel identity, eligibility rule or methodology may change both current and historical outputs. We seek to distinguish a genuine change in recognition from a technical correction or recalculation. Ranking order is not manually adjusted to satisfy a hotel or interested party.

Hotel identities and record reconciliation

Hotels may change names, brands, ownership, management or operating status. We aim to maintain a coherent canonical identity so that distinctions and history follow the correct property rather than an accidental duplicate.

Mergers of duplicate records, attribution of awards to similarly named hotels and treatment of relocations or major re-openings require corroborating evidence. Where identity remains ambiguous, we may withhold attribution pending further review.

People and professional profiles

Profiles of general managers, designers and other hospitality professionals focus on information relevant to their public professional roles. We distinguish current appointments from previous positions and do not infer a tenure solely from a hotel’s opening date or an undated biography.

We avoid unnecessary personal information, speculation about private life and unsupported claims of association. Individuals may request correction of inaccurate professional facts through our Corrections process.

Dates, archives and historical context

A hotel’s opening date, an award’s edition year, an announcement date and the date Luxe Adviser updates a record can be different. We endeavour to preserve these distinctions rather than treating all dates as interchangeable.

Historical snapshots are interpretations of information available for a specified period. Newly recovered source material may justify retrospective corrections. Such changes do not necessarily mean the original historical publication was inaccurate when issued.

Editorial judgement and uncertainty

Facts, third-party recognition and editorial interpretation serve different purposes. We aim to identify factual statements with appropriate evidence and explain the criteria behind evaluative conclusions.

When sources conflict or evidence is incomplete, we may describe the uncertainty, defer publication or exclude the item from scoring. We do not present estimates, forecasts or provisional hotel openings as confirmed operating facts.

Corrections, challenges and right of reply

Readers, hotels, publishers and featured professionals may report a specific factual error and provide supporting evidence. We review the underlying record and its provenance, assess the potential effect on related profiles and rankings, and correct substantiated errors.

We may request further evidence and cannot guarantee a particular outcome or response time. Disagreement with editorial weighting or a ranking position is not, by itself, a factual error. Material corrections should be reflected consistently wherever the affected information is displayed. Submit a correction.

Updates, methodological changes and accountability

We distinguish routine data maintenance from substantive changes to methodology. Where practicable, significant methodological revisions should be documented so readers can understand why rankings differ between editions.

Editorial standards are reviewed as the platform and its sources evolve. These principles describe our intended practice; they do not promise that every historical record has been independently audited or that every possible source has been consulted.
